Members of the Pontefract & District ARS activated GB1AVR on HF and VHF over the weekend 18th - 19th July 2026 from the 'Ackworth Classic Vehicle Rally' near Pontefract in West Yorkshire.

Compared to last year the weather was warm and sunny. Rather than rain, fire was a greater concern and a number of coal fired vehicles set fire to the parched grass/straw in the ring. Thankfully West Yorkshire Fire brigade were on hand with plenty of water and they managed to put them out.

Nigel, G0BPK brought along his caravan and awning again this year which was most appreciated.

HF: IC706 MKII G and a Doublet antenna.

VHF: FT7800r and dual band collinear.
